Your body is wise. It’s constantly sending you messages—sometimes in whispers, sometimes in shouts. But in our over-scheduled, overstimulated lives, we’ve forgotten how to listen. We override discomfort, push through pain, silence emotions, and only pay attention when things become unbearable. When the diagnosis finally comes—diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, ulcers—we call it a wake-up call.Â
I got mine.Â
I wasn’t listening for years. My body was waving red flags, but I kept pushing. When I finally stopped, heard her, and began tending to what she actually needed—not just physically, but emotionally—everything began to shift. That’s when I found Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as tapping. It became one of the most empowering tools in my healing journey.Â
What Is EFT?
EFT is a simple, yet powerful, self-help method that combines gentle tapping on specific acupuncture points with intentional focus on emotional or physical issues. It’s kind of like acupressure meets mindfulness.Â
When you tap on these acupoints—mostly located on the face and upper body—you’re sending calming signals to the brain. This helps lower cortisol (your body’s main stress hormone), regulate the nervous system, and shift stuck emotional energy.Â
It might sound too simple to be effective, but research shows that tapping can significantly reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and even physical pain.Â
Why I Started Tapping
While exploring preventative and holistic approaches to healing, I stumbled on EFT. At the time, I was desperate to get out of fight-or-flight mode. I needed something gentle, something I could do myself, something that didn’t require another prescription.Â
EFT gave me that. It gave me agency.Â
I began tapping through the worry, the guilt, the pain, the emotional overwhelm—and with each round, something lifted. I wasn’t trying to fix myself. I was learning to meet myself, as I was, with compassion and curiosity.Â
Why We Don’t Listen—Until It’s Loud
We live in a culture that values productivity over presence, doing over being. It’s no wonder so many of us are disconnected from our bodies. But your body is always talking to you. Symptoms are not annoyances—they’re messages. The headache, the tight chest, the lingering exhaustion—they all have something to say.Â
Tapping helps turn down the volume on outside noise and tune into that inner wisdom. It reconnects you with your breath, your body, and the emotions beneath the surface.Â

Start with a 5-10 minute session and notice how you feel. I recommend trying the “Releasing Anxiety” or “Feel Save and Grounded in Your Body” options first.Â
How to Begin a Tapping Practice
- Find a quiet space. You only need a few minutes.Â
- Acknowledge what you’re feeling. Name the emotion or body sensation honestly.Â
- Tap with intention. Follow a guided script or video if you’re new.Â
- Breathe deeply. Let each exhale release what’s no longer needed.Â
- Repeat daily. Like brushing your teeth—it works best when done regularly.
You don’t need to be perfect at it. You just need to be willing.Â
Listen, Don’t Wait
Don’t wait for your body to break down before you begin tuning in. EFT is a beautiful way to come back to yourself—to honor what you’re feeling, to soften the edges of stress, and to let your body’s natural healing abilities shine.Â
This isn’t about bypassing the hard stuff. It’s about meeting it—with presence, breath, and a bit of tapping.Â
Your healing is not a one-time event. It’s a daily conversation. Tapping is one way to begin listening again.Â
While EFT can support many aspects of health and healing, it is not a substitute for professional medical care. Please consult your healthcare provider to rule out serious conditions before beginning any new treatment.
